This is a view of the Bodleian Library in Oxford, from scaffolding opposite (which can be seen in the foreground). It is a beautifully rendered scene of an apparently conventional subject, suffused with light. It is as if the building is glowing in the sunlight. Goodwin’s work is in a large number of public collections, including those of the British Museum, the Tate Gallery, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Fitzwilliam Museum, Manchester Art Gallery and the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester.
